About the site

licencia.uy is the route to a category A driver's license — a car, like the European B — in two departments of Uruguay: Maldonado and Montevideo. The site exists in three languages. For readers who do not read Spanish, the procedure is translated and explained step by step instead of the fine print of the official intendencia site. For Spanish-speaking readers, the same procedure, but with the source and check date behind every fact.

Who runs this site

Alexander Zakalsky lives in Maldonado. The site began when his wife was getting her license here: he learned the whole procedure alongside her and put it together step by step. Part of the facts rest on that experience and carry the unofficial source mark, the rest is checked against official sources.

How facts are checked

Every fact on the site carries its source, the date of the last check and a confidence level: an official document, a community observation, or a fact not yet confirmed. The full list — 68 sources for 732 facts — is on the sources page.
