Pass the practical test

Two stages: track and city. A passed track is kept — you retake the city only.

Show up on the assigned date with your own car and its papers, your own accompanying driver and the practice form: the intendencia does not provide a vehicle.

What to bring

  • The car: libreta de propiedad — the car’s title (not STX, STU or SES), SOA insurance, technical inspection if the car is over 5 years past registration
  • The accompanying driver: 21 or older, a license of the category you need or higher, held at least 2 years
  • The Registro de clases prácticas form with the 15 hours in it — they keep it when you take the test

How it goes on the spot

  • Taking the test in an automatic limits the license: it will only allow cars with an automatic gearbox.
    «Si hacés la prueba práctica en un vehículo automático la licencia que obtengas solo te habilitará a conducir vehículos automáticos»
  • Not showing up to an assigned test — theory or practical — carries a charge of its own.
    «En el caso de no presentarse el día agendado al examen teórico o al práctico se deberá abonar una multa por concepto de ausente.»
  • The intendencia’s protocol says it outright: pass the track and fail the street, and on the next attempts you drive the street only.
    «En el caso que él/la aspirante apruebe pista y repruebe prueba de calle, en la siguiente o siguientes instancias rendirá solo prueba de calle.»
  • The date can fall on a Saturday: the intendencia keeps separate office hours for exam Saturdays.

  • Retaking with your own accompanying driver? Count the entries: the system lets them onto the track no more than three times a month and seven times a half-year.
