Step by step

  1. Step 1. Book the visit (agenda previa)

    You reserve the date of the visit — the paperwork, the trámite, starts there. Needed either way.

  2. Step 2. Take the medical exam and get the constancia de aptitud psicofísica

    Book a slot at a center from the list and take the fitness-to-drive exam.

  3. Step 3. Attend the mandatory defensive driving talk (charla de manejo defensivo)

    Walk in with no booking to any scheduled session — there is no other mandatory training.

  4. Step 4. Take lessons at a driving school (optional)

    Not officially required. Settles the car and the accompanying driver for the test.

  5. Step 5. Hand in the documents and pay the fee

    The visit on your booked day: document, certificate, fee and exam dates.

  6. Step 6. Pass the theory test

    Eliminatory: fail it and the practical is closed. No official figures exist.

  7. Step 7. Retake the test after a fail

    not for everyone

    Only for those who failed: wait out the interval and book again.

  8. Step 8. Pass the practical test

    In a category A car and with your own accompanying driver — the intendencia lends none.

  9. Step 9. Pick up the finished document (PUNC)

    Picked up where you handed in the papers. The card is printed on the spot.
